Load balancing and smart charging
Fit more charge points on the same grid connection – and charge when electricity is cheap. Vialumina CHARGE controls charging stations of any make via OCPP.
Why load balancing?
A site rarely has enough power to charge every vehicle at full speed at the same time. Without control, fuses trip or costly power peaks occur. Load balancing shares the available power between chargers, so every vehicle gets charged without exceeding the limit.
Smart charging goes one step further and shifts charging to hours with lower electricity prices. It typically saves 30–50 percent of the charging cost – without any vehicle left uncharged when it is needed. Got solar or a battery at the depot? Read about shaving power peaks at the depot.
What you get
- More charge points on the same connection
- Less risk of tripped fuses
- Fewer costly power peaks
- Charging when power is cheapest
How it works in Vialumina CHARGE
Every vehicle charged to the right level, at the right time and at the right price.
OCPP 1.6 and 2.0.1
Chargers of any make, AC and DC, connect to the same system.
Dynamic allocation
Power is continuously shared between chargers within the site limit.
Right vehicle first
With GO or FLEET the system knows which vehicles leave first – they charge first.
Right level
Vehicles are charged enough for the next trip, without blocking the charger unnecessarily.
Right price
Charging is placed in hours with lower electricity prices and without peaks.
Alarms and remote control
Faults and interrupted sessions trigger alarms and can often be fixed remotely.
Frequently asked questions
What is OCPP?
Open Charge Point Protocol – an open standard for communication between charging stations and management systems. It means you are not locked to one brand.
Does it work with our existing chargers?
Yes, if the chargers support OCPP 1.6 or 2.0.1, which most modern AC and DC chargers do.
How much can we save?
Smart charging typically saves 30–50 percent of the charging cost, depending on electricity prices, capacity fees and how the vehicles are used.
