What is rFMS?

rFMS lets data from heavy trucks be fetched directly from the manufacturer – without installing anything in the cab. Here is how it works, and why it matters for hauliers.

rFMS in brief

rFMS (remote Fleet Management System) is the truck manufacturers’ common standard for sharing vehicle data. The truck already sends data to the manufacturer’s cloud, and with rFMS a fleet system can fetch details such as position, distance and consumption from there. Usually the vehicle owner activates sharing with the manufacturer.

This means heavy vehicles can join the same system as the rest of the fleet – with no installation, and nothing to remove when the truck is returned. See also fleet electrification.

Examples of rFMS data

  • Position and distance driven
  • Odometer reading
  • Fuel and energy consumption
  • Vehicle status

Frequently asked questions

Which brands support rFMS?

The major European truck manufacturers offer rFMS. Available data can vary between brands and models.

Do we need a device in the truck?

Not for data available via rFMS. Vehicles without rFMS can be connected with an in-vehicle device.

Can light and heavy vehicles be in the same system?

Yes. In Vialumina FLEET the whole fleet – from service van to truck – is visible in the same portal.
